Fly of the Month

About Me

The great outdoors have always been a driving force in my life. I stumbled into fly fishing and tying by going to a fly tying demonstration and was totally captivated by it. It wasn’t long before I was casting and presenting my own hand tied flies to the local brown trout. These days you’ll find me fly fishing our inland trout streams and tributaries in my home state of New York or guiding fly fishers in Yellowstone Country. I enjoy both the artistic skills of fly tying as well as the technical challenges of bringing the fish to hand. Fly fishing Yellowstone National Park and it’s surrounding waters has long been a dream of mine, not wanting to just visit the area but to find a way to truly participate and experience it through fly fishing. As a fly fishing guide and fly tier for Parks’ Fly Shop in Gardiner Montana, I have found the pathway to realize my dream.

My set up.....I thought I'd share a few thoughts and photos on my fly tying vise. The Jvise is made by Jay Smit a one-man-band sort of speak and he is a master craftsman. My vise with C-clamp is the best vise I have seen for the money. The vise has very solid hook holding capability and excellent function and quality. One of my goals this year was to upgrade my fly tying equipment and I've done that with this vise, my thanks Jay!
